Conductor: Yun-Sung Chang
Yun-Sung Chang studied piano and composition at Seoul Arts High School and Seoul National University. After leaving Seoul, he studied at the Hochschule of Music in Vienna with Leopold Hager, Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory in Russia with Ilya Musin, Summer school of the Mozarteum in Salzburg with Michael Gielen and Summer school of Siena, Italy with Valery Gergiev. His debut as an international conductor came after receiving an award at the 1st Prokofiev International Competition for conducting in 1993 in St. Petersburg and the Tokyo International Competition in 1997 for conducting in Japan. Since then, he has been invited to conduct in Korea, Russia, Japan and Europe. He conducted first performance of Europe of Penderecki’s Symphony No.5 “Korea”, which was composed in 1995 for the 50th anniversary of independence of Korea from Japan. He also conducted the 1st performance in Hungary with Budapest Concert Orchestra MAV in Czech(Ostrava) and Austria(St. Poelten) with Janacek Philharmonic Orchestra in Prag with Prag Symphony Orchestra in Brno with Brno Philharmonic Orchestra. He led the greatly successful Korean tour of the Kirov Opera Orchestra and Camerata St. Petersburg, Japan tour with KBS Symphony Orchestra to Tokyo and Osaka in 2007, German tour with Nuremberg Symphony Orchestra to 4 German Cities in 2012(Nuremberg, Velbert, Witten, Coesfeld), Austrian tour with Brno Philharmonic Orchestra and Janacek Philharmonic Orchestra. He worked as principal guest conductor of Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra and Prime Philharmonic Orchestra as chief conductor of Seoul Youth Philharmonic Orchestra, Ulsan City Symphony Orchestra, Changwon City Symphony Orchestra, Daejeon Philharmonic Orchestra in Korea and Osaka College Opera House Orchestra in Japan.
Orchestra: Incheon Philharmonic Orchestra
The history of Incheon Philharmonic Orchestra began in 1st June 1966 when principal conductor Chung-sock Kim first performed and established a base for the orchestra. From 1984, Won-Sik Lim was appointed principal conductor leading second century with his professional experience. Since Incheon Culture & Arts center opening in 1994, No-Sang Geum became artistic director and principal conductor with four groups of instruments. In September 2006, Zuohuang Chen held the title of artistic director and principal conductor broaden the scope of orchestra’s activity with series of distinguished concerts. Since October 2010, the orchestra has gained ground, led by Nan-Se Gum. Since August 2015, Chi-Yong Chung has been appointed as the conductor of the Incheon Philharmonic Orchestra building the orchestra up into one of the best orchestras. Since 2011, it has been invited renowned musicians, offered a series of performance with dynamic and varietal music programs for community. Also, it has hosted seasonal concerts and performances since 2016 celebrating 50th anniversary. As the first orchestra in Korea to adopt a season with concert, the orchestra is leading a new era for the future. With roots in the city of Incheon, the orchestra is seeking to take on the role as principal orchestra with diverse range of performances including regular concerts, feature performances, visiting concerts.
