Conductor: LEE Dai Uk

Lee Dai Uk, pianist and conductor, performed with the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra at the age of ten and gave numerous performances in Korea since he won 1st prize from Dong-A Music Competition in 1962. Upon graduation from Kyunggi High School, he was admitted to the Juilliard School as a full scholarship student. There he received his bachelor of music and master of music degrees, studying with Sasha Gorodnitzki, Rosina Lhevinne, and Martin Canin. He continued his piano studies with Leon Fleisher at Peabody Institute of the John Hopkins University, while at the same time studying conducting with Frederick Prausnitz, eventually receiving doctor of musical arts degree there. From 1984 to 2003, he was a professor for piano and conducting at Michigan State University and a guest professor at Kyungwon Universityfrom 1990 to 1992. He was a music director of Michigan Chamber Symphony Orchestra, which he founded in 1995. In 2003, he taught as a guest professor at Seoul National University for a year as a Fulbright scholar. He was a general music director of the Ulsan Symphony Orchestra from 2003 to 2007. Mr. Lee conducted the orchestra of final stage at Isang Yun Competition 2008 in Piano. He currently teaches at College of Music at Hanyang University as a professor.

Orchestra: Suwon Philharmonic Orchestra

Suwon Philharmonic Orchestra was founded by Suwon City to provide high quality culture to Suwon citizens and enlighten their lives. The rich history of Suwon Philharmonic Orchestra began its first performance in April, 1982 and gives over 70 concerts annually. It has earned a reputation for its beautiful sound and has become one of Korea’s leading orchestras. This Orchestra has had many concerts in Canada, United States, Thailand, England, Spain, Japan, Indonesia, Taiwan, China, and Germany. In June, 2003, Suwon Philharmonic Orchestra had a concert at the “2003 Asia Orchestra Week” at “The symphony hall” in Osaka by invitation of the Association of Japanese Symphony Orchestras. Moreover, the orchestra was invited from “Eckelshausner Musik Fest 2004” in Germany and had 4 concerts as well. In April, 2008, Suwon Philharmonic Orchestra invited Conductor Daejin Kim as the 6th Music director. And the Suwon Philharmonic Orchestras boosted it’s fame after performing in June 2009 at the Carnegie Hall, New York city. The performance , conducted by it’s Maestro Kim Dae Jin, was a huge success and entirely sold out. In addition, Suwon Philharmonic Orchestra played a significant role during the Suwon International Festivals from 1999 to 2002. Famous artists were invited from all over the world to perform at Suwon Outdoor Music Hall and GyeongGi Culture Center. The Suwon Philharmonic offers many opportunities to young talented musicians to perform with the orchestra. The orchestra has recorded and released numerous CDs, including works by Tchaikovsky, Bruckner, Berlioz, and Wagner.
