Announcement of the result from the Final of
the 6th Seoul International Music Competition presented by LG


The result of the Final stage of the 6th Seoul International Music Competition has been announced on April 24th.
Among 191 applicants from 22 countries, a total of 56 applicants (30 Korean and 26 overseas candidates) passed the preliminary round. Out of 56 competitors from 19 countries, 31 contestants from 8 countries passed to the 1st stage; among those, 16 competitors from 5 countries have made to the Semifinal; and 8 contestants from 3 countries were selected to compete in the final stage. The eight finalists performed with the Korean Symphony Orchestra conducted by Marco BALDERI on April 24th in Concert Hall of the Seoul Arts Center. Prize winners are as follows:

1st prize winner (prize money of USD 50,000):        Stefan Marian POP (Romania)
2nd prize winner (prize money of USD 30,000):       LEE Eungkwang (Korea)
3rd prize winner (prize money of USD 20,000):        HAN Jeehye (Korea)
4th prize winner (prize money of USD 10,000):        LEE Myonghyun (Korea)
5th prize winner (prize money of USD 7,000):          YOON Hee Saup (Korea)
6th prize winner (prize money of USD 5,000):          LEE Seungweon (Korea)

Specially invited to the competitions as Jury Members are Edith MATHIS (Soprano, Switzerland/Austria), Fiorenza COSSOTTO (Mezzo Soprano, Italy), HIRANO Tadahiko (Baritone, Japan), Corneliu MURGU (General Manager of the National Opera House from Timisoara, Austria), Arnold ALONS (Casting Director of the Théâtre du Capitole de Toulouse, France & the Teatro Muncipal de Santiago de Chile, Netherlands), Renate KUPFER (Casting Consultant of the Artistic Director of the Festival Puccini Torre del Lago, Italy), LEE Kyu Do (Soprano, Korea), KO Seng Hyoun (Baritone, Korea), YOUN Kwangchul (Bass, Korea) as well as Renato BRUSON (Baritone, Italy), the chairman of the Jury.

Prize presenters were KIM Eui-Joon, CEO of LG Art Center, and KIM Jaeho, president and publisher of the Dong-A Ilbo.

The prize winners are awarded total of USD122,000 (USD 50,000 for the 1st prize winner), special performance engagements with world famous orchestras, solo recital opportunities, and more. All stages of the Seoul International Music Competition were broadcasted live on the internet via Dong-A.com. The final stage was filmed to be TV broadcasted by Arirang TV, a sponsor of the Competitions; and recorded to be radio broadcasted by KBS 1FM.

The 7th Seoul International Music Competition is held from April 12th to 24th, 2011 in Seoul Arts Center.
