Marco Balderi completed his studies in piano at the L. Boccherini Musical Institute of Lucca, before entering the L. Cherubini Conservatory of Florence where he obtained the diplomas of choir conductor, harpsichord, and organ. He then entered the S. Cecilia Conservatory of Rome where he completed studies of orchestra conductor and obtained the degree with honors.
\nBetween 1984 and 1989, Balderi worked as assistant to many famous conductors, such as C. Abbado, R. Chailly, C. M. Giulini, J. Levine, Z. Mehta, R. Muti, G. Patan\u00e9, and W. Sawallisch, in important theatres such as the Teatro alla Scala or the Salsburg Festival.
\nFrom 1992 to 1996, Marco Balderi conducted the choir of the Florence Opera House, which gave him the opportunity to collaborate with Z. Mehta and S. Bychkov in numerous productions. He also gained a deep knowledge of the opera vocality.
\nMarco Balderi began his career as orchestra conductor after winning the International Competitions of Salzburg and Alessandria. He toured Austria, China, Corea, France, Germany, Japan, Poland, Romania, Russia, Spain, and Switzerland.

About 90 concerts – regular concerts, Youth concerts, Opera- and Ballet-performances as well as local area concert-tours and other special concerts \u2013 were played annual. In 1987 Korean Symphony Orchestra signed an exclusive agreement with the National Theatre. Now the orchestra became partner of the National Opera, the National Ballet and the National Choir, and two years later it was approved as a corporation of the Ministry of Culture and Sports.
\nIn March 2001, when the Seoul Arts Centre at its 16th anniversary got a new status as a foundation the new company took the Korean Symphony Orchestra as its permanent orchestra.
\nNow the orchestra has about 80 members and is one of the \u2018top three\u2019 orchestras in Seoul. The schedule is as pretentious as ambitious. Different Concerts alternate with Operas and Ballets and demand an extensive repertoire for every musician. In 1990 it performed the largest musical event ever held in Korea “The Grand Choir” with more than 5,000 chorists participating in chorus at Jamsil Gymnasium. It also realized more than 50 records and accompanied world famous singers as \u2018Placido Domingo\u2019 in 1995, \u2018Jos\u00e9 Carreras\u2019 in 1999 and 2005 and the \u2018Three Great Tenors\u2019 Concert in Korea\u2019 in 2001, \u2018Dame Gwyneth Jones\u2019 in 2003. The Korean Symphony Orchestra has contributed to the development of classical music in Korea by its sphere activities.
\nGoing through many difficulties over the years, it has proved that a private orchestra can reach highest level of quality and so give an example for other private orchestras.
