The application package with all required materials must be received by the Seoul International Music Competition office no later than November 12, 2010 (NOT postmarked).
\n\u2022 <\/strong>Please Note: Applications must be typed or printed in English or Korean.<\/p>\n

The following documents are to be included in the application package:<\/p>\n

A) Application form(can be submitted via our online application form)<\/div>\n
B) Two recent color photographs of the applicant, taken within six months of the date of application (width 5.5cm x height 6.5cm, frontal head and shoulder shot, with the applicant\u2019s name written in the back) for use in the competition program and other promotional materials.<\/div>\n
C) A photocopy of the applicant\u2019s passport<\/div>\n
D) Two recommendation letters from musicians of acknowledged professional standing, including the applicant\u2019s present or most recent teacher. Only Korean and English languages are acceptable. A letter written in any other language must be translated into one of the two accepted languages and submitted along with the original letter with the musician\u2019s signature. Letters without signatures will not be processed.<\/div>\n
E) An unedited DVD for pre-screening (video tape, CD, and cassette tape are not acceptable). The recording must be a minimum of 40 minutes to a maximum of 50 minutes in duration, and must include a prelude and fugue from The Well-Tempered Clavier<\/em> by J. S. Bach and an Etude by Chopin.<\/div>\n

However, non-Korean competitors who do not reside in Korea will be provided with financial aid towards their international airfare in the amount of US $400 for those coming from Asia and US $800 for those coming from outside of Asia (Taxes will be deducted from the aid according to Korean tax laws). Non-Korean competitors who are not resident in Korea will also be provided with room and board at designated lodgings from April 9, 2011 until the dates indicated below:<\/p>\n

\u203b All competitors are required to arrive in Seoul by April 10, 2011 to register with the Secretariat and to draw lots to decide the order of performance at the competition.[\/vc_column_text][vc_custom_heading heading_semantic=”h4″ text_size=”h4″ uncode_shortcode_id=”754307″]PRACTICE[\/vc_custom_heading][vc_column_text uncode_shortcode_id=”711143″ css=”.vc_custom_1644237415014{padding-left: 10px !important;}”]Non-Korean competitors who are not resident in Korea will be provided with practice facilities, free of charge, for three hours every day from two days before the 1st Round until the conclusion of the competition. Each finalist will have two rehearsals with the orchestra (including a stage rehearsal) before the Final Round.[\/vc_column_text][vc_custom_heading heading_semantic=”h4″ text_size=”h4″ uncode_shortcode_id=”169877″]PERFORMANCE RULES[\/vc_custom_heading][vc_column_text uncode_shortcode_id=”257870″ css=”.vc_custom_1644237457831{padding-left: 10px !important;}”]The order of appearance will be determined by a random drawing on April 10, 2011. On the day of performance, each competitor must show up at the Secretariat office located in the concert hall by the specified time. Those who are unable to perform when called upon to do so may be disqualified. However, if any competitor should be late for his\/her performance due to unavoidable circumstances, the Jury may allow the competitor to perform at a different time, depending on how the competition is progressing in terms of time. Every stage of the competition is open to the public. [\/vc_column_text][vc_custom_heading heading_semantic=”h4″ text_size=”h4″ uncode_shortcode_id=”201501″]PERFORMANCE RIGHTS[\/vc_custom_heading][vc_column_text uncode_shortcode_id=”396847″ css=”.vc_custom_1644237534889{padding-left: 10px !important;}”]The competitors will be contracted exclusively to the Seoul International Music Competition while they are in Korea. All contacts with the media must be made through and with the approval of the Secretariat. The competitors will be required to be available for any media-related arrangements made by the Competition.
\nThe Secretariat reserves the exclusive rights, without additional fees payable to the competitors, to:<\/p>\n

1. Record audio or video materials and broadcast all the rounds of the Competition including the rehearsals, Opening Ceremony, and Award Ceremony by television or radio, internet, cable networks in Korea or abroad.<\/div>\n
2. Record, reproduce and arrange for the reproduction of performances in the competition on CD, SACD, sound track, audio cassette, video cassette, video disc or CD-ROM\/CDI, DVD, minidisk, or any other existing or future medium.<\/div>\n
3. Arrange agreements with other parties for the Competition materials mentioned above.<\/div>\n

1. A point system will be used by the Jury for adjudication. Each juror will judge and mark the performances of all competitors, but abstain from judging\/marking performances of the competitors who were his\/her own students for more than three months in the previous two years.<\/div>\n
2. The decisions of the Jury are final and are not subject to appeal.<\/div>\n
3. Competitors may not communicate with any member of the Jury at any time during the competition. There are no exceptions to this rule and any competitor who fails to comply will be disqualified, and additionally, any member of the Jury who fails to comply with the rule will jeopardize his\/her own status in the competition.<\/div>\n

A) The Jury reserves the right to withhold any awards.<\/div>\n

These may include concerts, recitals, and recordings for CDs or DVDs. The 1st prize winner and other selected prize winners will be required to be available to perform for these engagements. For such engagements, round-trip airfare as well as room and board for a maximum of 7 days will be provided by the Secretariat. No performance-related fees shall be paid to the performer. Performances must be a minimum of 35 minutes to a maximum of 40 minutes in duration, consisting of works selected freely by the contestant. No works from the 1st Round may be repeated.<\/div>\n

Performances must be a minimum of 55 minutes to a maximum of 60 minutes in duration, consisting of works selected freely by the contestant. However, the selections must include the contestant’s choice of one of the commissioned pieces written for the competition by the Korean composers LEE Shinuh and LEE Young Jo. Each piece will be 5~6 minutes in duration and will be sent to the competitors who are accepted into the Preliminary Round by January 12, 2011. No works from the previous stages may be repeated.<\/div>\n

1. No work can be repeated during the 1st, 2nd, Semifinal and Final Rounds.<\/div>\n
2. The repertoire chosen for the solo rounds must include at least one work by Haydn, Mozart, or Beethoven. <\/strong><\/div>\n
3. All works must be performed by memory, with the exception of the commissioned pieces by the Korean composers to be performed in the Semifinal Round.<\/div>\n
4. Repeats will be left to the discretion of the candidate.<\/div>\n
5. Changes in submitted repertoire of all rounds may be made only with the permission of the Secretariat. Competitors must notify the Secretariat of any changes in writing no later than February 12, 2011.<\/div>\n
6. For all the rounds, the order of the works being performed will be decided by the contestant.<\/div>\n
7. Performance times will be strictly observed. Performances which exceed the specified time limit may be interrupted by the Jury.<\/div>\n
